Resources on sex therapy

Articles from Ocnos Psychology Clinic to better understand desire, intimacy, sexual anxiety, emotional blocks and the difficulties that can appear in sexual life, both individually and within a relationship.

No judgement, no taboo Clear clinical information to talk about sexuality with respect, care and naturalness.
Individual and couples Resources to understand sexual difficulties through the body, emotion, the relationship and personal history.
Intimate wellbeing Content aimed at understanding, not blaming or reducing the difficulty to an isolated symptom.

The aim of this category: to offer useful and clinically responsible resources for individuals and couples who want to understand what may be happening when sexual anxiety, loss of desire, performance pressure, shame, difficulty enjoying intimacy or intimate distress appear.

Sex therapy is not about forcing quick solutions. It helps us understand the role of anxiety, self-pressure, communication, the couple’s relationship, the body and previous experiences in the way sexuality is experienced.

What you will find here

Sexuality, anxiety, intimacy and psychological wellbeing

In this category we bring together content on sex therapy written from a healthcare, respectful and non-judgemental perspective. The aim is to help you put words to difficulties that are often lived in silence, with shame, or with the feeling that they “should resolve themselves”.

Having a sexual difficulty does not mean there is something “wrong” with you. It may be related to anxiety, previous experiences, insecurity, pressure, relationship conflict, life changes, fear of judgement, the sexual education received or bodily disconnection. Understanding the context is often the first step towards approaching it with more calm.

Topics we will be covering

  • What sex therapy is and when it may be useful.
  • Sexual anxiety, emotional blocks and fear of performance.
  • Difficulties with desire, arousal, pleasure and intimacy.
  • Shame, fear of judgement, insecurity and self-pressure.
  • Sexual communication within the couple and difficulty expressing needs.
  • How the body, anxiety and personal history influence sexuality.
  • Individual sex therapy, couples sex therapy and sex therapy for couples.
  • Intimate wellbeing, bodily reconnection and recovery of safety.

An intimate difficulty does not define the person

Many sexual difficulties continue because they are lived with pressure, silence or shame. A psychological approach allows the situation to be viewed more broadly: not only what happens, but when it appears, what triggers it, how it is interpreted, which emotions it activates and how it affects self-esteem or the relationship.

Ocnos services and content connected with this category

Sexuality can intersect with anxiety, mood, the couple’s relationship, communication, personal history and the way the body is experienced.

Clinical guidance

Understanding before demanding quick solutions

In sex therapy the aim is not to impose goals or measure the person by their performance. The work focuses on understanding the difficulty, reducing pressure, improving communication and recovering a safer relationship with the body, desire and intimacy.

Sexual anxiety

When anticipation, fear of failing or bodily monitoring block the intimate experience.

Desire and intimacy

Desire can change because of stress, tiredness, conflict, emotional distance or accumulated pressure.

Body and pleasure

Psychological work can help reduce shame, disconnection or body-related insecurity.

Communication

Talking about sexuality with care can reduce tension and support more realistic agreements.

Anxiety and sexuality in an adult man with an emotional block

Anxiety and blocking

Anxiety can influence desire, arousal, body connection and the ability to experience intimacy calmly.

Individual or couples sex therapy in a psychological consultation

Individual or as a couple

Intervention can be carried out individually or with the partner, depending on the difficulty, context and therapeutic goals.

Improving wellbeing and intimacy in a couple through sex therapy

Intimacy and the bond

When sexuality intersects with the couple’s relationship, communication, trust, safety and emotional closeness may need to be addressed.

Clinical note

When it may be helpful to ask for support

It may be useful to seek help when the difficulty continues over time, creates anticipatory anxiety, affects self-esteem, limits intimacy, leads to avoidance, worsens communication within the couple or is experienced with suffering. Therapy helps to understand the problem and build gradual changes, not to judge the person.

This information may help you orientate yourself, but it does not replace a professional assessment. If there are physical symptoms, pain, sudden changes, medical concerns or possible medication side effects, it is also important to consult the relevant healthcare professional. At Ocnos we work on the psychological and relational component of sexual difficulties from a confidential and respectful space.

Reviews

Trust is also part of psychological care

In intimate matters, feeling heard without judgement is especially important. Patient reviews can help you understand how psychological care is experienced at Ocnos Psychology Clinic.

Hector is amazing. As a parent, supporting a 10-year-old child through life’s challenges sometimes feel overwhelming, and having the right guidance makes a big difference. He is helping me better understand my daughter needs, and how I can best support her as a parent. What I appreciate most is that he doesn’t just offer advice; he helps me see situations from a different perspective. His guidance is really valuable to me and has made a big difference in the way I approach parenting. I highly recommend him. Thank you Hector.

Booking my first appointment with Hector was one of the best choices I made. It took me many years to take the first step, and I am very glad I did, and that it was Hector the person helping me on my journey to overcome the obstacles preventing me from moving forward in my life. With just a few sessions and proper guidance and self work I made a lot of progress that I am satisfied with. I wanted to help myself, but I needed a guide to help me help myself. Hector was that person. Very grateful and thankful, and highly recommended. Thank you 🙏

Ocnos Psychology in Palmones is a truly welcoming, professional clinic, with a calm environment and ample parking that makes visiting feel easy from the outset. I have personally found Hector’s support invaluable in deepening my understanding of neurodiversity and developing strategies that have helped me both personally and professionally. He is kind, compassionate, highly knowledgeable and wonderfully adaptive to each person’s needs. He creates a safe space where you feel genuinely heard, supported and empowered to build on your strengths. He offers sessions in both English and Spanish, and his background as a teacher makes him exceptionally well placed to work with both children and adults. The highest compliment I can give is that, as a coach myself, I would actively refer clients to Hector if they wished to explore a neurodiversity assessment or diagnosis. Highly recommended.

I had the best experience at Ocnos Clinic. I had my sessions in English with Héctor, and from the very first session I felt comfortable, listened to, and genuinely understood. What stood out to me most was how knowledgeable and dedicated Héctor is. It’s clear that he genuinely cares about his clients and goes above and beyond to help. His approach has really helped me better understand and manage my anxiety, and I’ve already noticed a positive difference after just a few sessions. I would highly recommend Héctor and Ocnos Clinic to anyone looking for professional, compassionate support. It’s absolutely worth it.
